Nepalese in Niagara (NIN) – Teej Celebration 2025

Introduction
Nepalese in Niagara (NIN) successfully organized its annual Teej program on August 23, 2025, at 495 Welland Avenue, St. Catharines. The goal of the TEEJ event was to bring together Nepalese women and the broader community. TEEJ is a festival of joy, dance, and cultural heritage, and Dar, a tradition of food taken in the evening just before TEEJ. This year’s program was marked by vibrant performances, engaging activities, and strong community participation. This program demonstrates the growing cultural presence of the Nepalese community in Niagara.
Attendance and Participation
Nearly 130 registered participants, including women, families, and students of Nepalese of the Nepalese community, presented in the program. The diverse audience reflected the inclusivity and cultural enthusiasm surrounding Teej celebrations.
Program Highlights
- Guest Registration, Musical Dance & Formal Inauguration
A welcoming environment filled with music and open dancing had created excitement and energy right from the beginning. The program began with welcoming remarks and cultural entertainment. - TEEJ Special Treasure Hunt:The Teej Special Treasure Hunt was one of the highlights of the celebration, with 22 enthusiastic participants joining the fun. Laughter, excitement, and teamwork filled the air as everyone searched for hidden clues. In the end, the winner was awarded a special gift, making the game both memorable and rewarding.
- Teej Rugged Trivia
This interactive trivia entertained and engaged participants while sharing knowledge about Teej traditions. Winners also received attractive gifts, honoring their talents and knowledge about the culture. - Dance with Singer Man Singh Khadka
A highlight of the evening, renowned artist Man Singh Khadka led a live musical session that energized the crowd and encouraged participation. Similarly, another round of music and dance with Mr. Khadka kept the festive spirit high. - Dance Camp with Three Teams
Three talented groups showcased their talents through their dance performance. Such performance also added variety and visual excitement to the program. - 3 dance groups:

- Merin Timsina
- Binita Ghimire and Binisha Ghimire
- TEEJ Special Dar (Snacks and Dinner)
All participants enjoyed traditional Nepali dishes, providing a taste of home and community bonding. - Cultural Dance:
A free-style dance session encouraged everyone to join the floor, fostering togetherness. - Lucky Draw (50/50 Raffles)
70 individuals participated in the lucky draw. The winner was announced and honoured that created excitement and a playful environment in the night.
